Cerritos Caregivers Help Seniors Beat the Heat and Have Fun!

With summer in full tow, it’s hard not to get excited about the activities that are available this season. There’s hiking, swimming, and all sorts of outdoor activities that are available, but what about for seniors and the elderly? Because their bodies may not be physically able to endure such outdoor events, they may feel a little isolated from the norms of summer fun, but it doesn't have to be that way. There are many ways to enjoy the summer with elderly loved ones and here are some of them:

DIY Projects:

DIY is great for bonding with your senior loved ones. DIY (or do-it-yourself) can range from knitting to somewhat more complicated projects like photo magnets.

Walking:
Take a stroll on the beach or a round in the park – Not only could this benefit your loved ones as a form of exercise and physical therapy, it’s also a nice time for catching up!

Storytelling – This takes literally no effort from both parties and it’s also a chance to let your loved one shine. Learn a little more about what it was like to grow up in a different time and make new memories at the same time!

A-1 Home Care and its staff & caregivers know all about the issues concerning seniors and the elderly, including the need for companion care, the potential for Alzheimer’s and Dementia and the demand for in home and 24 hour care. We dedicate ourselves to proving quality and professional home health aides to live in and service the elderly in their homes. Not only do we promise professional senior caregivers, but we promise to deliver all facets of care, including but not limited to Parkinson’s Care, Diabetic Care, Heart Attack care and more.

Bookmark Art Project at Downey Care Center

Today, a few from our A-1 Home Care family took a trip to Downey Care Center to participate in an arts and crafts activity with the senior residents there. We sent over Jackie from Marketing, Janette from Recruiting, and Hanna from Social Media. It was a blast, and we look forward to returning to engage with the elderly residents!

Downey Care Center is a rehabilitation hospital that serves surrounding areas. Many of the residents had been staying to recover from procedures such as surgery, and were happy to have something to do for an activity! We saw many artistic and creative elders make tasseled bookmarks for themselves, and as gifts for others.

This is Lorna Mae, who was excited to make a bookmark to place in her bible.

Final results. Notice the popularity of hearts? Just in time for Valentines Day!

Per our tradition, A-1 Home Care hosted a final event for the afternoon. A surprise raffle! All of the participants dropped in their names, and one special winner- Betty, got to take home the gift basket. It was filled to the brim with gourmet cookies, mixed nuts, cheeses, and other goodies.

A-1 Home Care truly appreciates the opportunity to engage with the community in ways such as this. Downey Care Center will be an ongoing location for our arts and crafts events, with bimonthly showings from members of our dedicated corporate family. If you or a loved one are planning to stay here, please shoot us an email, so we can keep you updated on our schedules!

Fitness resolutions for the New Year/ A-1 Home Care provides Senior Caregivers

Losing weight and getting fit are the most common new years resolution, and people across the country are renewing their gym memberships for a head start on this endeavor.

Fitness and exercise is important for good health at any age, and seniors are no exception. You'll want to talk to a doctor before you start any new exercise regimen, but a low-impact exercise routine can benefit your health by stretching and strengthening your muscles, reducing stress, improving memory, and sleep.

In fact, regular exercise is scientifically proven to improve the quality of one's life.

Many gyms offer excellent low-impact exercise classes for seniors, but staying fit doesn't require a gym. With a family companion or a caregiver you hire, you can take time out of the day to enjoy a quiet stroll, join in on an exercise class at the senior center, or take part in a walking club. A-1 Home Care often hosts events at senior centers and rehabilitation centers, and we'd be happy to chat with you regarding our companion services at our next meeting.

A-1 Home Care will be hosting a fun arts and crafts event at Downey Care Center on January 28th from 2pm to 3:30p. If you or a loved one is staying here, we invite you to join!
